Third large update wave out now!

The third and final update wave before the Main Rulebook update, taking care of a few minor things that I overlooked in the first pass, or which were reported afterwards, along with a few other additions.

The Main Rulebook update will be a very large one - I've done most of the work ahead of time, but it will probably take a few weeks until the beta is out since it will require quite a bit of back and forth discussion on the Discord server, and there are a lot of minor bugs I need to fix as well.

Warhammer - Amazons 1.5 out now!

This is another fairly hefty update in terms of changes, mostly buffing the army. First up, Guerilla Tactics (now Warfare) has been divided up into three sub-rules. Serpent's Strike (based on the Savage Fury rules from Amazons in Mordheim) gives them Devastating charge, giving you more of an incentive to get the charge with them, and gives an additional bonus for flanking.

Predator's Feint is the new version of the old rule - this allows you to "flee" without having to pass a break test first, meaning you can get out of combats more easily. This has been balanced by allowing the enemy to pursue as normal, but Amazons also gain a bonus to their flee rolls to make them more adapt at running away voluntarily. Essentially, it's a "get the hell out of dodge" card you can pull when you find your chances of survival better by legging it instead of staying stuck in a combat you cannot win - and can be used to set up charge traps against the pursuing enemy unit.

Lastly is Hunter's Step - allowing you to shoot, and then move backwards after. This allows the Amazons to move out of range of enemy missile fire or charge range, which helps offset their lack of armour.

Other large changes to the army are regarding their High Age Artefacts - these are all AP(2) now making them better against armour than handguns and pistols. I've also moved them around a bit so the Piranha Warriors are dedicated short range skirmishers, while the eagle warriors can form a long range defensive unit.

Amulets of the Moon have been changed as well - they no longer offer a ward save, but instead work in combat, giving the Amazons some needed protection there. A new defensive item for them is Enchanted Charms (also from Mordheim) which gives them a 6+ ward save and Magic Resistance (1).

On the subject of magic; I've decided to remove the Lore of the Serpents - this was originally called "Amazon Rituals" in Mordheim, and was then turned into a magic lore in 6th ed with the same spells. The issue with it, apart from only having 7 spells, is that it has no actual theme per say and is just a random mix of various jungle/wind spells, which is already mostly covered by the Winds of Magic in the Main Rulebook. Instead, I've chosen to give the Amazons access to all the Winds of Magic - which makes sense considering they were the servants of the Old Ones, and none of the lore would really feel out of place for them either. So while they lose their own lore, they have instead gained access to twice as many lores from the main rulebook - I'd call that an overall win.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the update, and many thanks to my Patreons for your support!

Patch notes:

  • Renamed Garland Warfare to Sacrificial Hunt.
  • Guerrilla Warfare: The following applies to models with this special rule:
  • Serpent's Strike: Models with this rule gain the Devastating Charge special rule. In any turn in which they successfully charge an enemy unit in the flank or rear, they may re-roll 1's To Hit and To Wound.
  • Predator's Feint: In the first round of close combat in which a unit with this special rule does not win the combat or the enemy passes their Break test, it may choose to disengage from combat instead of taking a Break test or making a combat reform. Units affected by Frenzy cannot attempt to disengage from combat. If the unit chooses to disengage, it makes a Flee move as if it had broken from combat. However, this does not cause Panic for breaking within 6" of friendly units. The enemy unit may only choose to pursue if they won the combat. In addition, whenever a unit with this rule chooses Flee as a charge reaction or to disengage from combat, it gains +1 to its Flee distance.
  • Hunter's Step: Unless it charged, marched or fled during the Movement phase of its turn, a unit with the Fast Cavalry or Skirmishers special rules armed with missile weapons may move up to its Movement value directly backwards after resolving its missile attacks in its Shooting phase.
  • New Army Special Rule: Enchanted Charms: A model with Enchanted Charms has a 6+ Ward save and the Magic Resistance (1) special rule.
  • Claws of the Old Ones, Sun Gauntlets and Sunstaffs are Armour Piercing (2).
  • Sun Gauntlets do not give +1 Attack.
  • All missile and close combat attacks targeting a model with an Amulet of the Moon suffer -1 to Hit. Increased the cost for characters.
  • Removed Lore of the Serpents. Serpent Priestesses can choose spells from any Wind of Magic.
  • Stunning Rod replaced by Moonblade.
  • New Magic Item: Death Whistle: Any enemy unit that is charged by the bearer of this item must take a Terror test.
  • Increased the cost of great weapons.
  • Spears for Amazon Warriors cost 0.5 pts. They are Unit Size 15+.
  • Amazon Archers are a separate unit.
  • Skirmishers pay 1 pt for slings and blowpipes.
  • Huntresses do not have shields by default cost 12 pts. Shortbows are free.

    Amazons 1.4 (beta) out now!

Another update fairly long in the making, Amazons have now received quite a few new toys to play with! This includes monstrous units, more magic items (many thanks to Marppuli on our Discord server for helping out to create many of them!) and combat drugs to give them more hitting power, while their High Age artifacts are a bit more limited and weaker and penetrating armour to balance it out better. Both Piranha and Eagle Warriors have been moved to the special section being elite units, and replace the Koka-kalim both in lore and rules. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks to my Patreons as usual!

Some smaller updates here, changing the following apart from adding a 9th ed version. The plan is add 9th ed updates in 3's. Some minor updates for several books, fixing the following:

    • Druid Neophytes 10 pts each, only get +1 to cast after the second 5 models in the unit. Can only cast Earth Blood and Shield of Thorns.

    Amazons:

    • Eagle Warrior javelins cost reduced to 1 pt.
    • Totem Guardians have halberds and shields instead of great weapons.
    • Gorols don't have any equipment by default, can purchase great weapons and light armour, 35 pts basic.
    • Wizards can now use the Lore of Beasts.
    • Augments from the Lore of the Serpent are no longer "remains in play".
    • Jaguar Hunting Packs only require 1 Beastmaster.
    • Some new art.

    Araby:

    • Golden Magus 370 pts.

    Estalia:

    • Fixed multiple bugs.
    • Fire Bulls may now be charged.
    • Knights of the Blazing Sun have S3 (25 pts basic), can be upgraded to Inner Circle.
    • Knights of the Righteous Spear added.

    Halflings:

    • Short bows instead of bows for cavalry archers, 1 pt cheaper.
    • Some layout changes and additional background for certain units.
    • Ram Riders may take magic banners.
    • Swan Riders may have standard bearers.
    • Lords of the Harvest may not have magic standards.
    • Hobilars only have to test for the Omph! rule if they roll a 1 when charging, pursuing or fleeing.

    Hobgoblins:

    • Fixed multiple bugs.

    Norse:

    • Some new art.

Next up will be new the Bretonnia update, followed by the Alpha version of 8,5 ed. After that, I plan to give both Skaven and Beastmen their much needed updates to 8th ed. These are planned to be pretty quick affairs, mostly giving the books a facelift and making them consistent with the other 8th ed books. Art and background will be a mix of 6th and 7th ed books, as well as some from WFRP. Some new units will feature from Monstrous Arcanum, and maybe Storm of Magic as well.

    Large update wave out now!

Having gotten some proofreading help on a large part of the books, this update consists of fixing spelling errors, formatting errors, improves the layout, and clear up ambiguous rules, which should eliminate most, if not all, question marks regarding how to resolve certain situations.

    Updated books:
    • Albion
    • Amazons
    • Bretonnia
    • Dogs of War
    • Kislev
    • Nippon
    • Norse
    • Pirates of Sartosa
    • Empire Knightly Orders
Because of these generally being smaller scale updates, they are only available on Google Drive for now.

Warhammer: Amazons proper 8th ed update out now!

3 years since the last update, so it was about time! And again, thanks to Stefan Wolf for helping me flesh out the background for many of the units! This new update features the following:

    - 4 new units: Jaguar Hunting Packs, Terradon Riders, Medusas and an Avatar of Rigg.
    - 2 new special characters: Lwaxana and Lysippe.
    - New/updated Magic Items.
    - Timeline for the Amazons.
    - Much edited background section.
    - Units now have access to a multitude of High Age Artefacts.
    - Complete 8th ed revision with full colour artwork and layout.

Let me know how the army fares if you test it, some prices and options might need some changes to be worthwhile in keeping with the army's playstyle.

    Development Update: Amazons

Been working on the Amazon list a bit (more than I should really!), and I'm making decent headway. Most of the bestiary is finished, and I'm getting help from Stefan Wolf to flesh out the fluff of what's left. Their main background section will have a bit more fluff in it as well, particularly their history section (which will also be fleshed out by Stefan Wolf), which only mentions their origin and myths at the moment. They will also have a real timeline this time around.

As far as units go, they will get 4 new ones in total (Beast Mistresses, Terradon Riders, Medusas and an Avatar of Rigg), and 2 new special characters (Lwaxana, a lvl 4 Voodoo caster, and a Lysippe, a mounted character). 2 of the old units (Pygmies, Handmaidens) are gone. High Age Artefacts will be available to most units as upgrades.

From the looks of it, I will probably be able to get it out at the end of the month, depending on how long it will take to finish the new fluff.

    Current Progress:

    Contents/credits - done.
    Society - done.
    History - done.
    Timeline - done.
    Geography - done.
    Bestiary - done.
    Special characters - done.
    Spell Lore - done.
    Magic Items - done.
    Army list - done.
    Summary - done.

    Details for upcoming Warhammer: Amazons

Don't expect this update too soon (I mean it this time!), I'm only letting you know of what to expect when I get there. I might finish Pirates of Sartosa first, but that won't be until June at least.

The Amazon list will see some large changes in how they play, but there won't be ton of new units to choose from. Instead, the army will be reworked into much more of an elite glass-cannon force, with better troops, better weapons and better protection. This is a throwback to the original GW Amazons from the 80's, where they actually had 40k weapons like Bolt Pistols and Needlers (of course such silliness won't appear here!), and as such, the new Amazon army will rely much more on Old One technology than the current list. Expect magical attacks, wards as well as poisons to become much more common.
Most of these changes will probably be in the form of upgrades however, so those who prefer the simpler Amazons with just spears and bows will be able to field just that, and those who want an elite force with magic items for everything will be able to play that as well.

New units will be featured in the form of Medusas (MI), Beastmasters and an Avatar of Rigg, their Goddess. Handmaidens will likely disappear, as will Pygmies. If there are any other potential units you would like to see in the list, let me know in the comments.
