Large update wave out now!

Going over the upcoming updates for the non-official books, I felt that since they are all going to be pretty quick ones with little discussion required, I might as well publish them all at the same time so I can get started on the Main Rulebook sooner.

The plan is to publish another quick update wave again for the official books next week, so stay tuned for that.

Albion 1.61:

Main change is the removal of Son of Ogmios - it was added last update, but frankly does not work well considering full Giants are still WS3 - meaning Half Giants as characters suddenly being WS5 is very inconsistent. Regular Half Giants have gotten a bump to T5 making them consistent with regular Giants, and can now take a command group.

  • Removed Son of Ogmios.
  • Shieldbearers give Inspiring Presence (6), costs 25 pts.
  • War Hounds have M8.
  • Shields and light armour for chariots cost 4 pts.
  • Half Giants have T5, I3, costs 37 pts. Added command group options. May take javelins.
  • Giants and Bonegrinder Giants may take Woad Paint for 30/50 pts.
  • Stone Thrower has 3 crew.

Araby 1.72:

  • Cleric has Magical Attacks.
  • Bowmen can take bucklers, not shields.
  • Janissaries have bucklers by default, cost 7 pts. Can replace them with shields or other weapons. Cannot take shields in combination with other weapons.
  • War Elephant causes D3+1 Impact Hits. Spike Chain increases this to D6+1. Costs 120 pts. Can take light armour and/or barding, not armour plates.
  • Khalil al-Zahir has Inspiring Presence (6), costs 305 pts.

Estalia 1.22:

  • Tactical Supremacy: Any unit with this rule has the Cold-blooded special rule when taking tests to March, Reform, Redirect Charges, Restrain from Pursuit and when using Support Fire.
  • Warrior Priests have Magical Attacks.
  • Fixed bug with Hidalgos missing Tactical Supremacy.
  • War Dogs are M8.
  • Knights of the Blazing Sun: The model must be armed with heavy lance, shield and barding. Whenever a unit where the majority of models have this special rule makes a successful charge, the enemy unit being charged suffer -1 Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill for the duration of the turn.
  • Isabella Giovanna Luccelli has Magical Attacks and Magic Resistance (2).

Halflings 1.21:

Two larger changes - Treemen are now Monstrous Creatures and solitary units, like in the Wood Elf book. This is also more in line with how they worked historically, and solves the inconsistency issue between the two books. I've also decided to remove the Halftank - it being a miniature steam tank with completely different rules made little sense, and I did not feel it was right to just copy the Empire's most unique unit wholesale. It's also more akin to a special character than a unit since there's only one Halftank, and it does not really play into the rest of the Halfling theme at all. Hence it's being relegated to a historical foot note rather than a common battlefield unit.

  • Hobilars may take javelins.
  • Shearers have scythes.
  • Treemen are Monstrous Creatures, Unit Size 1.
  • Removed the Halftank.

Hobgoblins 1.22:

  • Fixed bug with Orlok statline.
  • Merged Cutthroats and Archers into a single unit.
  • Dire Wolves renamed to Snarlfangs.
  • Hobhounds are M8, have Frenzy.
  • Ravagers cost 11 pts.
  • Kheshig poison only applies to close combat attacks.
  • Mangudai poison costs 2 pts.
  • Fixed bug with Nergui's statline.

Kingdoms of Ind 1.21:

  • Thronebearers give Inspiring Presence (6), costs 30/20 pts.
  • Royal Chariots may take up to three additional Crew.
  • War Elephants may take light armour and barding.
  • Giant Bows and Jingals are slow to fire.

Kislev 1.22:

  • Supreme Patriarchs have Magic Resistance (2).
  • Kossars are Unit Size 15+.
  • Fixed bug with Winged Lancer stats.
  • Strength of the Great Bear: Ilja may forfeit his normal attacks in favour of doing a special attack. This attack has the Multiple Wounds (D6) and Ignores Armour Saves special rules.

Nippon 1.31:

Katanas now follow the rules for "Oriential longswords" in both Cathay and Dogs of War, so they are consistent with each other. It's now the Samurai's defensive weapon with Parry, and Armour Piercing on top (even if the latter does not really make much sense). Way of the Warrior has seen a bit of a nerf so it's more in line with the Knight's Vow in Bretonnia, and also makes the Warrior Monks stand out more.

  • Katanas give Armour Piercing (1), Parry (6+), Requires Two Hands.
  • Way of the Warrior no longer re-rolls failed Psychology tests.
  • Clan Mons count towards the Magic Item limit.
  • Uesigo Clan Mon: Yamabushi may re-roll failed Leadership tests when using Prayers of the Kami. Costs 15 points.
  • Warriors Monks and Yamabushi have Magical Attacks.

Norsca 1.21:
  • King renamed to Jarl.
  • Jarl renamed to Hersir.
  • Bondsmen, Marauders, Reavers, Shieldmaidens are unit size 15+.
  • Jarls, Hersirs, Marauders and Horsemen may take flails.
  • War Wolves are Unit Size 10+, cost 7 pts.
  • War Wolf Chariots may replace javelins with throwing axes
  • Great weapons for Trolls cost 6 pts.
  • Fixed bug with Werebeast's stats.
  • Frost Giant’s great weapon costs 10 pts.
  • War Mammoth may take light armour.
  • Fixed bug with Styrmir Rimefrost missing.
  • Jora and Bjorn may not be the Army General.

Pirates of Sartosa 1.31:

  • Multiple minor bug fixes.

Zombie Pirates 1.51:

  • Updated Red Thirst and Necromancy to be on par with Vampire Counts.
  • Fixed bug with Vampires being listed as Undead.
  • Syreens are Loners.
  • Bloated Corpse is Expendable.
  • Scurvy Dogs have M8, WS/I2.
  • Necrofex Colossus does not have Magical Attacks.
  • Magical Void: Luthor Harkon channels dispel dice on a 4+ rather than a 5+.

    Halflings 1.1 beta out now!

A lot of changes in this one! Insatiable Appetite has been removed as it was a very time-consuming ability that required a bunch of tokens to keep track off for each unit; a new form of this ability can instead be given to individual units through the use of Chuck Wagons.

I've also removed multiple superfluous units that either did not add much or was pretty much entirely lacking in terms of models. Instead I've gone for trying to have each unit have a bit more of a defined role, while still allowing people to keep using most of their models in other units.

A very big change is the removal Wizards, which is not supported in the lore canonically. Instead, Halfling characters can take two Talismans and/or Enchanted Items which gives them better survivability and access to Bound Spell items. I have also included a lot new magic items (mostly from my old 8th edition book, but also some for the homebrew list on our Discord and some made by our moderator Marppuli), and tightened up a lot of the previous special rules. I'm open to including even more magic items created by the community in the final version.

Huge thanks to my supporters, especially around Christmas time when expenses are typically higher than normal. It's very much appreciated and the main way I can support my hobby nowadays!

    This update changes the following:

    • Removed Insatiable Appetite as an army special rule.

    • Elder renamed to Moot Elder.

Also some news about the Skaven; working on them little by little everyday, and is currently up to 198 pages. There is a ton of editing that needs to be done though, so it will be substantially shorter when finished, probably around 120 pages or so. I plan to get a lot of work done on it during my vacation next week, but I don't have any release date as of yet.

Also preparing to add more to the miniatures gallery. Will be mostly sneak peeks of eventually-to-be-painted models from each of my armies to give you guys some ideas and inspiration (because I don't expect them to be finished any time soon). As soon as I get my new tripod, I'll take some pictures and post them on the blog.

Art and background will be a mix of 6th and 7th ed books, as well as some from WFRP. Some new units will feature from Monstrous Arcanum, and maybe Storm of Magic as well.

Warhammer: Halflings - proper 8th ed update out now!

Scarily fast, I know! I guess the prospect of Rome II consuming all other upcoming free time means I subconsciously feel a need to work my ass off until then, but I think the results should very well be worth it!

Anyway, this new, full colour version of the Halfling book features the following:

    • Much improved layout and formatting for better readability, the amount of repetition in the text has been toned down considerably. The sections of the book are much better laid out in separate parts with better in-dispersing headlines as well.
    • Full colour, most of the art is entirely new.
    • No more empty space on any pages.
    • Tons of re-balancing: prices for most infantry have gone up 1 pt, but the cavalry has generally gotten cheaper. Magic has been nerfed considerably to a more supporting role in keeping with the background. Their Magic Lore has unfortunately gone, but might reappear at some point in the future when I have a good idea of how to deal with it.
    • A new special character, Hisme Stoutheart (who really should have been in the army from the start!).

Oh, and don't let the new "dark" cover frighten you, they are still as much a "comedy" army as ever ;)

Anyway, enjoy, and let me know if I've totally ruined the army by hitting them with the nerf-bat too hard!

    Details for upcoming Halfling update

Time for the short furry-feeted ones to get colorized! I'm not gonna put a date on it since I do intend to make room for other things (mainly video games, plus that thing called "work"). However, this shouldn't take too long to get done with mostly editing needed, as opposed to having to add/rewrite a ton of fluff.
The book will most likely not see any new units, but there will be a few more special characters added at least, including the famous Hisme Stoutheart. Overall, it will mostly be a major facelift with much improved layout and formatting (can't believe how much progress I've made on that front since early 2012) as well as some re-balancing (expect prices to go up). I would guess September, but I'm not promising anything.

    Current Progress:

    Contents/credits - in progress
    Society - done
    History - done
    Timeline - done
    Geography - done
    Bestiary - done
    Special characters - done
    Magic Items - done
    Army list - done
    Summary - done

Update 1: Lot of progress has been made already as you can see! I've done some major editing in their background section, so you should see a lot less repetition in the text compared to the old version, and every it much better laid out for easier reading.
The special characters will take a while though as they need a lot more fluff to fit a whole page, and their magic lore will probably be rewritten completely. The army list too needs to be re-done, since I'm using different templates for it in the newer books. Still, a mid-September release looks very much plausible now, if not sooner.

Update 2: Turns out "sooner" means "this weekend". Writing fluff for Halflings turned out to be surprisingly easy, meaning I now only have the army list left to do really. I will probably finish that part later today or tomorrow, so you can expect to see the new version on Sunday at least.

    More projects on the horizon!

While I'm working on the Bretonnian book (Chaos Dwarfs is on hold for now), I have also started working on the next update for Dogs of War which has been due for quite some time. This will see some changes in the magic items and Traits section, but also a new layout for the army list itself. Also been tinkering with the Halflings, Norse, and Kislev books. Halflings and Kislev will get some more fluff in the next update (just fleshing out some bestiary entries really), as well as a revised magic items section. Legacies of Kislev will be gone as well. The Norse will get a new hero choice called a Slaver, and the rules for the War Mammoth will change to those from Tamurkhan, as well as a magic item revision and more fluff for some units. These will be added at a later date. And there will also be some new books! 4 smaller projects are planned: - Mercenaries of Tilea: a source book on Tilea based on Spears of the Maiden which will add a bunch of additional mercenary units to the fold, like Assassins, Broken Lancers, Ribaults, Caroccios, light infantry with warhammers and longbows, you name it! Also included will be some fan-made regiments of Renown. - Classic Regiments of Renown: This will just be an extension to the already existing RoR book. It will include the classic RoR's from the 80's like the Mother Crushers, Knights of Origo, and many, many more! - Cult of Slaanesh: Kinky stuff! Will contain a ton of fluff on the cult and lure of Slaanesh itself, as well as a revised army list for 8th edition. - Cult of Ulric: A detailed description of the cult and the city of Middenheim where it resides, as well as a revised army list for 8th edition. A ton of stuff coming in the future, in short!

Halfling update out now! More Bretonnia news!

Another update for the furry feeted fellas! This one fixes a couple of statline errors, adds a little more background to the Halfling religion, and changes the layout quite a bit. No more white pictures on grey background, with a redone page border that doesn't intrude as much in the army list.
I have also changed the format of the army list to follow that of 8th edition, which should eliminate the weird text overlapping of the Enchanter entries.

In other news, I'm currently working a lot on the Bretonnia book, which should be the longest by far. Will even have to cut down on some of the fluff lest it be over 200 pages long! Some of you wanted more options for wizards, which you will get in the forms of priests/priestesses of Shallya. Also included will be Templar Crusaders, support characters that makes your knights even deadlier in combat. A couple of more units are in the works as well, a unit of Falconers that will act as cheap flyers (still working on the rules) and a Sacrosanct of the Lady, basically a mobile Grail Chapel, which can give the army some nifty boosts.

Note that none of these things are set in stone though and can (and likely will) change during the development phase.

Also, re-did the cover for 8th edition, should make it less confusing to know which edition it belongs to. Will do the same with the rest of my armies when I get around updating them.

    Update for Halflings out now!

Just a small one fixing a couple of spelling errors and getting some higher quality images for the book. I would also like to give special mention to Brenton Smith and fauthsie whose work in the book was previously missing from the credits. All taken care of now!

On the subject of Fimir, the book is coming along at a record speed pace, being almost 100 pages already. The bestiary is finished, the main background is almost complete, though the army list still needs to be made, and the magic items needs editing. Expect a release early March, though it might take a little longer depending on how soon my good computer will be back from the repair shop. Got to catch up on those video games!

    Warhammer Armies: Halflings out now!

Finally finished! Man, thought I would be stuck translating Spanish background forever! Coming in at 80 pages total, this is definitely the most complete Halfling book to date. So now you all just need to let me know of all the obvious mistakes I have clearly overlooked, so I can start patching it up ASAP ;)

Now, I'm going to get myself some well-deserved sleep before working more on the Fimir book... which will likely be released in March btw. Until then, enjoy!

What's that in the mist? The Fimir!

Okay, so you know just how crazy I am by now, so it should come to no surprise that I have even more books planned in the future. The latest one to the batch will be (as you can probably guess from the title): the Fimir! With Warhammer Forge making some new models for them as well as the inclusion of them in Storm of Magic, now would be a good time for the one-eyed monsters to reappear as their own army!

I have found a ton of background info for them which should make this a rather quick and simple project seeing as I won't have to fill it out much myself other than making the actual rules. I will post army list details once I am done scrounging the internet for fluff, images and ideas.

As for other armies, I have acquired a copy of Tamurkhan now, so I have all the things needed to make the Chaos Dwarf book as well, but I think I'll save that one for last.

On the subject of Halflings, I've finished the army list for them, and I'm now working on clearing up the magic items. The book might be slightly delayed due to studies, but I am gonna try to squeeze it out before the end of the month at least.

    Halfling news update

Happy news to you furry feet lovers! The Halfling book is now proceeding at good speed, and should be finished in late January/early February. I'm finished with the bestiary and currently working on the army list itself. Then I only need to finish editing the background sections and the magic items which shouldn't be too much of a problem, so expect some new rules in 3-4 weeks!

Another Kingdoms of Ind update posted!

Only a small update here. This ones fixes a few bugs and adds a 5+ Ward save to all the Deities (which silly I forgot to write in the first time!).

As for the Halfling list, not much progress has been made I'm afraid, and I doubt it will be out before the end of the year. Most of my current time has been spent painting, and it will be for quite some time. Then as November hits, the real gaming season with Battlefield 3 and Skyrim starts, which will likely last a good while into December and possibly January. However, after that I should have ample time to finish it, so hopefully you will have some new rules in late January/early February!
