Full colour DoW and RoR out now!

Though it's been long overdue, here's finally the Dogs of War and Regiments of Renown books in full colour, which also includes the latest update with some rules clarifications and some minor fixes (the issuu version has slightly lower print quality, smaller file size).

This will probably be the only update for a month or so. The bestiary for Cathay is pretty much finished now, but the actual background section will take quite some time to get right, so I wouldn't expect it until the end of April.

Development Update: Cathay

Just posting to say that while the update is well under way, it will take some time until it is finished. I have a metric ton of material to go through as well as writing quite a bit myself (fortunately I also have some help from Stefan Wolf who has been so kind as to help me out with the background). The book will be quite similar to the old version as far as the rules go, but a huge part of the background for both units and the land of Cathay is getting remade, with a large increase in the quality of the writing. Reading through the old version, I can't believe how many inconsistencies it has!

Same goes for the art work, which I have to say might be the best of any book overall! There will be some extremely impressive illustrations in it, and so many that I might just have to extend the background section to fit them all in!

I will try to finish it during April, but cannot give you any guarantees (as usual then!). I want to make this the best Cathay book is can be, so want to avoid rushing it like the old version.
In the mean time, you can still look forward to the full colour update for Dogs of War and Regiments of Renown, which will have plenty of  new eye candy to peruse.

Interview for the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Reporter

Hi guys, figured I'd post a link to an interview I did earlier this week for the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Reporter where my books are posted. In it you can read a bit on the background and the history of why/how I started the Warhammer Armies Project, some of difficulties with making the army books, my thoughts on the current hobby and so on: http://battlereporter.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/interview-with-fantasy-army-designer.html

Might be interesting for those of you who want to have a little bit more insight apart from just reading the books.

As for upcoming updates, Dogs of War and RoR are being looked over at the moment and will be posted soon.

New Chaos Dwarf update out now!

This should hopefully be the last update for Chaos Dwarfs for 8th ed. This update changes the following:

  • Points values and stats changed for several units like K'Daai and Bull Centaurs, which are now more in line with MI/MB from other army books.
  • The K'Daai Destroyer has gotten a big nerf, but is cheaper now.
  • Magma Cannon has its range reduced by half and is slightly cheaper as well.
  • Altar of Hashut now requires friendly units to sacrifice, table effect results increased by 1.
  • Some rules clarifications on several units and characters.
  • Fixed a bunch of OCR issues and added some more paragraphs to the fluff section to make it easier to read.

New Classic RoR update out now!

Rather than having to queue up with all 3 updates at once, I'm posting this one right now since it's separate from the "tournament" books anyway. It doesn't change any rules apart from the sword Scabscrath and some clarifications on named models, but gives it a bit of a refurbished look with a new background and some new artwork.

The full colour updates for DoW and the normal RoR's is pretty much done as well, just waiting for the green light from the other developers.

Full colour Dogs of War update coming soon!

Looks like Cathay will be ever so slightly delayed as we have talked about finally making the DoW book full colour. Like the latest Bretonnia update, this will be a short endeavour, probably only taking 2-3 days.
The full colour update will also include Regiments of Renown and Classic Regiments of Renown, which will get a new parchment background. This update will also include the errata changes discussed at Dogs of War online. Expect updates for all 3 books before the end of the week.

Details for upcoming Cathay update

Going to be focusing fully on Cathay from now on, seeing as they are the oldest of my army books without an update. Unlike Nippon, Cathay won't have huge changes in terms of units, as I am quite satisfied with their current selection of troops. There will however, be a few new units for you to play around with:

Brass Titans (pretty much their giant monster, which Cathay currently lacks)
Field Engineers (which will be able to choose from different weapons like hand mortars, fire bombs, sky rockets, and flame throwers)
Some kind of monstrous cavalry (on daemonic frogs. I'm not kidding.)

Apart from new units, there will of course be quite a bit rules changes, mostly in the form of nerfs to the War Machines like Dragon Cannon and the Fire Arrow, who are really overpowered at the moment (their rules were initially written for 7th ed).
The background will get a major overhaul, as I'm not really satisfied with their current history section (way to many names to remember during the Three Kingdoms era for instance) and there aren't many entries that coincide with the rest of the Old World, not even the mentions of Cathay from official sources. This will probably take a while to rewrite, so it might slow down the project a bit. That said, starting March 15, I will have 3 weeks off from university where I will have ample time to work on the list.

Large Chaos Dwarf update out now!

Finally got this one done! Been dragging a bit since I haven't felt all that inspired to work on them, but sat down and finished the promised update today. Apart from some layout changes and text edits, the new version contains the following new units:

Sneaky Gitz
Spear Chukka
Goblin Slaves
Orc Slaves
Zealot Berzerkers
Whirlwinds
Tenderizers
Inferno Guns
Bazukas
Juggernaut Siege Tower
Palanquin

So there you go, units enough to border on insanity and redundancy! All the classic units all the way from 3rd edition is back for your usage. I had planned to include Ghorth the Cruel as a Special Character as well, but I don't really have any ideas on how to make him stand out from the other Sorcerers at the moment, so he has been left out for now.
This update will likely be the last one for Chaos Dwarfs in a good while, unless there are some major bugs that needs fixing. And with this one done, I should now have ample time (well, what will be allowed after university and this months batch of video games takes its toll at least!) to work on Cathay!

Dropping Gnoblar Hordes

After some deliberation, I've decided to drop the future planned supplement for Gnoblars for now. There's just not anything I see myself adding to it other than making it 8th ed compatible, which severely limits any creative process that might otherwise go into it.

That said, it's not impossible that I will make a smaller Allied Contingent book with alternative army lists at some point, but it's really low on my to-do list at the moment. I doubt there are that many pure Gnoblar fans out there though, so the lack of an updated playable 100% Gnoblar list probably won't affect too many of you I hope.

The rest of the books will be updated/made as planned, though Cult of Slaanesh and Mercenaries of Tilea won't be out for a long time, so don't put them too high on your wishlists.
