- Bone of Ullr 15 pts (50 were insanely expensive considering how random it is).
- Angvar's Fury now gives Hatred instead of Frenzy (Frenzy seemed pretty pointless since they can already get it through Berserkergang).
- Gate of Hel now effects individual models rather than whole units (on par with other vortex spells).
If there is anything else you readers feel needs to be changed with the Norse list, let me know in the comments.
Cool and logic changes for Norse magic phase.
ReplyDeleteNow some questions about Sartosa.
The "BLOODY BILL'S BUCKLER" is really a "magic weapon"? does not seem very logical but it's cool because with that bucler and 25 point magic armour and the parrot you has -2 to hit you and repat the "6", really tanky pirate, is great has that option.
With the PISTOLS OF KING DEATH i hace Armour piercing in close combat(and F4 ever, even with magic buff or debuff)?
Otherwise, how exactly work Exmelin? Can I include him in a unit and revive members of command group or Masters and Idlers? Can I include him in a Sons of Stromfels unit and revive 1D3 sharkmans every turn? (it would be a extremely resilient unit, but without march (Sea creature rule) they still too slow for play them like a death-star.
And for last, with Mr. Bill can I use his rule Quartermaster with a Sea Giant (light armour+ scaly skin 5+) or Turtigon (light armour+scaly skin 2+)?
Ty for your answers... are some questions that I have for now. Is for some future battles in our Lustria scenarios :)
Blasted bugs! The buckler should ofc be magical armour, will fix that. Exmelin and Mr BIll should only have an effect on Infantry units, will clarify that.
DeleteHey, I have been following your army books for years now and I have always had a special interest in Norse.
ReplyDeleteSomething I miss from the previous edition of the book was the Great Name / Legends style character customization where you could pay a few points for something thematic and a little stat boost or special rule.
Some of your other books still have these additional options like Mon for Nippon or sort of The Art Of War for Cathay etc.
If you could re-establish some sort of Saga/Coming Of Age Trial bonus or even a clan system drawing from all the existing Norse clans I would really appreciate it!
Thanks
Like the old space wolvers book! That's will be cool because their magic items, specially their magic weapons are unplayable or not interesting.
DeleteHi, I do have plans for adding "Sagas" to the Norse in an upcoming update, based on the Space Wolves book ;)
DeleteEric: which magic items do you find unplayable? I know their weapons are on the expensive side since they are based on the mightiest weapons from Norse mythology, but I'd like to see them be worth taking as well ofc.
DeleteThank you for the quick reply and I'm glad to hear it!
DeleteI can see what Eric means, I like Gungnir, its a bit all or nothing but sometimes its fun to be and I find it more useful than Mjolnir.
Tyrfang is decent enough but I wonder if it could be made 50pts (maybe with some tweaking?) as I used to enjoy giving something cool to my Jarl's. I find when you are fighting lord's; ward saves are more dominate but at a hero level Tyrfang would be a killer.
I have to give a shout out to my favourite item in the last army book , The Naegling! Though I was partial to a few Golden Apples now and again!
I'll look into Tyrfang, it would be nice to, as you say, have a weapon that can be taken by heroes as well :)
DeleteWill the new End Time Series have an effect on your books? :D
ReplyDeleteBut End Time is an alternate timeline or the oficial? Cause Kislev is obliterated :(
DeleteShort answer: no.
DeleteLonger answer: probably not.
In general, I dislike GW's take to kill off major factions and characters. I much prefer the status quo, and to be able to build on that. I haven't read the new Nagash book yet so I can't say for sure, but from what I've heard, I do not like the new direction at all. As an alternative timeline, much like Tamurkhan, it's fine, but as THE official continuation of the story, I'm strongly opposed to it. But I will ofc read it before making a final judgement.
Re: Bone of Ullr - are the new spells cumulative? What happens if he rolls a spell he already has?
ReplyDeleteUsing the normal rules for multiple spells; he would then get to choose spell. I can add that he may not choose a Lore he already has.
DeleteHey Mathias, don't you check your emails? I sent you a bunch of stuff, besides the Dwarf pics and things. Do you plan to do a Pygmy army to oppose the Amazons? I think they would be a better evil army for Chaos and you could do a lot with it. Is this possible?
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you know if Games Workshop is quitting the other three armies: Skaven, Bretonnia, and Beastmen?
Hi, sorry for not replying, had gotten a bunch of emails so I missed replying to some. Don't have any plans for pygmies atm, and they wouldn't really be a chaos army regardless. They would essentially be humans with blowpipes and perhaps some kind of voodoo magic, but that's about it.
DeleteI don't know anything more than anyone else regarding GW quitting any armies, but I strongly doubt they will. Bretonnia might have to stay in limbo for a while longer though.
Regarding your other questions: Zoats live in the Forests of the Old World, not Khuresh. Khuresh would just be Naga.
Gnomes were written out of the Warhammer background a long time ago, and Judges from BloodBowl I know nothing about I'm afraid.
At least not the Skaven, since the third volume of the End Time Series is about Skaven. The Beastmen will probably appear in the 2nd one about Archaon's hordes and Bretonnia in the third one where all the other races will be compiled.
ReplyDeleteHey Mathias, I read that you said earlier that Pygmy armies are not your cup of tea and that you know of 2 people working on army books for them--I know I am more loyal to your books cause they are much more professional, but could you give me the site or link that these 2 people are working on the Pygmy book?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'll send you some more pics of my father's armies. We just had a Napoleonic game where he kicked the crap out of me. I shouldn't be surprised though, he has never lost a game and won many tournaments.
Don't remember any pygmy projects, think they might have been working on Gnoblars though. Pygmys have never been particularly popular in Warhammer.
DeleteOkay, also Mathias, could you clarify something for me. Your Norse book is based on Norse, Norsca, or both? Cause I am slightly confused about the book. Some fight against Chaos, while others fight for Chaos, does that mean Chaos can have access to Erik Redaxe, Frost Giants, etc.
DeleteAre you going to do Hung and Kurgans eventually? Like to see these over a Gnoblar army. Don't you feel Gnoblars are a waste of time? Like to see a couple more destruction armies, and also will the Army of Cairns (Khemmler's army) be dropped? I mean we have undead galore already--I would like to see some of the northern tribes fleshed out. Is this possible by you?
The book is primarily based on the original Norse list for Warhammer. There are several different tribes; the northern ones tend to worship Chaos, whereas the southern tribes are more neutral and closer to classic Vikings. Since the northern tribes are already incorporated into WoC, the Norse book focuses more on the southern tribes.
DeleteI have been considering Hung and Kurgans as well, but there aren't that many things I feel can be done with them to make them stand out. The Kurgan are Turks/Conan barbarians while the Hung are Huns/Mongols, both of which have already been incorporated in the form of Araby/Woc/Hobgoblins. Might make a smaller supplement for them though.
The Gnoblar Hordes and Army of the Cairns are White Dwarf lists, which I simply intend to update to 8th ed and give a facelift. Nothing that says I can't do all of them.
Cool I hope you can do it all. Like to see some new books soon. Especially Fimirs. I mean that is the closest new army book that is yet to be released right?
DeleteI have a week off from work later this month, might be able to finish something then. Regarding the Fimir, they are not exactly either new, nor will they have a whole army book. I made an army book for them back in 2011 (7,5 ed), but feel that the list was much too bloated, so it will be trimmed down to a smaller format.
DeleteHey Mathias: for the Estalians -> is it meant to be, that wardogs do not have the swift-stride rule?
ReplyDeleteAnd: Do you still need pics? I got slowly assembled a small painted Estalian Army so far.
Hi, they are War Beasts, and as such have the swiftstride rule by default. Might have some use for some pics later on, sure. I only got a small Estalia force myself, which won't be painted for quite some time. Have way too many other armies I need to finish first.
DeleteCouple of notes
ReplyDeleteThe Youngblood champions are called Clannachs in the Albion Army List and Shaothrus in the Summary. As the Warrior champions are also called Clannachs (in both sections) I suspect there was a copypaste error here.
As Dire Wolves are already a unit type for Vampire Counts, perhaps Gigantic Wolf would be a better name for the Hobgoblin mount?
Hi, this has been corrected, but not uploaded yet. Dire Wolf is really the name for "gigantic wolf", which I felt was a better fit. "Giant Wolf" and "Gigantic Wolf" kinda sounds like the same thing ;)
DeleteSo what armies do you have left to do Mathias?
ReplyDeleteFishmen
Khuresh
Hung
Kurgan
Gnoblar
Khemmler's Army
Fimir
Border Prince Stuff (same as the Badlands right?)
Any plans for the Southern Waste? Or are all those just Beastmen?
Also will these all be actual army books?
Hard to say, since it will depend on how much time I have to work on them. None of those lists will be complete army books though, too little background information and too much work required. I want to be able to support the already existing army books as well.
ReplyDeleteHi and thank you in advance for your great job with the armies, my question is simple xd, what bases has the norse army for normal infantry, 20 or 25 mm. Thx
ReplyDeleteThanks! Either is fine, as long as it's consistent. I'm using 20mm bases myself.
