So, as some of you probably have seen, images of the new "Sigmarites" are out on the internet, and I'm decidedly in the camp that is not positive about their look, or the round bases. So, for those who wonder, I will not be updating my books for Age of Sigmar, but rather stay firmly in 8th ed, maybe with a few alterations.
So long official Warhammer, it was nice while it lasted, but I'll stick to homebrew rules from now on.

This together with being a fantasy-enthusiast means I love to see historical cultural diversity represented in a fantasy setting (like in LOTR or GoT). Your work is the most serious stuff I´ve seen so far for Warhammer, and you are definately taking it more seriously than GW is doing now! Hope you will keep going with this cultural contribution!

I am really astonished of how GW is trowing into the toilet bowl everything they have done up to now. All the lore, all the special characters with their background, all the old historic heroes, all the places they have described up and down all the WH world.

At this point, I'm glad I didn't apply for a job there, because I would definitely not have liked working on the Age of Sigmar. I'm a little interested in seeing their mercenary faction (though my expectations are low), but on the whole, it's just bad.

Thanks, that's very nice to hear! I'd gladly take you up on your offer regarding the art, since it hard to come by for certain books (mainly Halflings could use a new proper cover). Is that something you would be up for?
DeleteMathias, your army books are way more balanced than GW's ever used to be. You got zero overpowered (low-costed) units or items and the background of the armies and units is straighter to the Warhammer Fluff.
ReplyDeleteOur gaming group decided to stick with the 8th edition and keep on using your army books - as they hardly need and restrictions in competetive gaming at all.

I had that in mind for a long while actually, but been holding it off in case 9th ed would be an improvement. I probably wouldn't rewrite the entire game system since that would take too much time, but a few fixes is something that I think could improve the game a lot for those who preferred the more low-key 6th ed version of the game.
DeleteIt really dosnt seem like its the end of Warhammer as we know it. GW stores would loose a significant part of their sales (and easily all their profit) if they discountinued WHF and started a new line from scratch with only two factions to start with. And the store in Copenhagen doesn't seem particularly panicked.
ReplyDeleteThe manager referred to WHF as the "normal" game when orchestrating a WHF battle evening while waiting for AoS. Normally they don't tell their managers anything but I would guess they would have too if it would impact their business seriously.
So my guess is that its just a new game (basically) that takes place when the mortal world inevitably falls to Chaos and Sigmar returns with a golden angelic host to crack a few million skulls.
At least such is my line of thinking ^^
It replaces the base game, thats why they pulled down all the army books.

DeleteSeems too over the top for me. Fantasy has always been more low key for me and now it feels like they are just trying to make this 40k in a high fantasy world. I like 40k but the feel of that game in my mind does not work for fantasy. I liked how the humans in fantasy despite having magic and steam tanks and griffons still felt grounded in reality.

Rules are out for the old armies. No points costs, no balance, and silly drinking game special rules that give bonuses based on the player dancing or having a big moustache. Not making these up.

ReplyDeleteYou should check out Mayhem for fantasy mass battles. It's fully customizable and has rules that allow you to build your vision of the classic Warhammer fantasy units [especially if you use the 'Armies of Mayhem' builder files].
