Warhammer: Empire 9th ed 1.12 out now!

Update 9/1:
  • Greatsword can upgrade to medium or heavy armour, not heavy and full plate armour.

Update 4/1:
  • Warrior Priest prayer's do not affect detachments (as detachments do not exist anymore).
  • Witch Hunters do not have light armour by default.
  • Fixed bug in army list where Marksmen have A2 and Preceptors have A1.

This update contains the following changes:
  • Removed Knights Panther, Blazing Sun and White Wolves from the book, these can instead be accessed from the expansion with the correct special rules for their Grandmaster.
  • Removed skirmishers from Sisters of Sigmar, is now optional. Added Immunity (Fear). Nerfed to Ld7 like in Mordheim, champions have WS4. Can only have HW and shield, as befits their models. Will get more options in the Priests of the Old World expansion.
  • Cut off Valtens backstory to after he saved Lachenbad so the story does not interject with Volkmar's current fluff. Valten as the Champion of Sigmar will be made available in Storm of Chaos later.
  • Kurt Helborgs armour can never be made worse than 3+, rather than rerolling saves.
  • Boris Todbringer has a shield, hates Beastmen.
  • Jubal Falk may include the Nuln Ironsides.
  • Magnus the Pious have the Leader of Men and Righteous Fury special rules.
  • Additional power dice from multiple Arcane Battle Altars are cumulative.
  • Greatswords are State Troops.
  • Reiksguard Knights joined by Kurt Helborg may re-roll failed break tests.
  • Witch Hunters can take crossbows.
  • Arch Lector 100 pts.
  • Nerfed Bruckner's amulet.
  • Engineers can have light armour.
  • Flagellants Ld5.
  • Multiple bugs and spelling errors fixed.

8th ed Ravening Hordes will be updated shortly after New Years.

  1. Only because I mentioned it last time - Boris Todbringer's 'Crush the Weak' rule now references the White Wolves (really good move btw). However, the White Wolves are now not in the Empire book anymore so maybe add the Knightly Orders expansion to the reference if you don't want to list the rule there? I haven't checked any others where that would apply...

Also , (although this is general rules related rather than empire-specific), when calculating Combat Resolution it is unclear whether multiple unit standards add cumulative combat res; the Combat Res section (p45) states "This is cumulative with several units engaged in the same close combat, each with their own standard bearer." however the Command Group: Standard Bearer section (p76) states "Remember that in a multiple close combat this bonus is limited to a maximum of +1 if any unit has a standard, not +1 for each one present in a fight." Which is correct?

    As always, many thanks :)

    1. Gah, fix one thing and another fix gets screwed up! I'll get on fixing it, thanks.

The former is correct, multiple standards stack now.

  2. I'm glad for giving the sisters Immunity but why remove the other weapon options?

    1. This was due to all the models not actually using anything but hand weapons. There's a single model that uses a great weapon, the rest have either one hand weapon or hand weapon and shield.

  3. Spotted a tiny error on the Witch Hunter's army listing, lists that they can take light armor for 2pts although they already come with light armor standard

  4. On another note, will you be updating the Cult of Ulric armybook to reflect the changes in the Core Empire Armybook?

    1. Yes, though this will be after the main books are out.

  5. Can i check why champions in knightly units only have one attack while missile units have gained an extra attack in addition to their extra BS point?

  6. So are these changes made to the book itself or is this like an FAQ thing? I've always been a bit unsure if you make an entirely new file or not

    1. Whenever I post that something is "out now" that means I have uploaded a new version of a book, so the pdf file has been updated. Same link as before.

  7. can you add it to your wonderful extra page for IOS users please ?

  8. Under the Warrior priest entry it says that the prayers effect the unit's detachment. Does this mean it affects nearby units with the State Troops rule within 3"?

    1. That's a leftover from 8th ed, prayers only affects the priest's unit. Will fix.

  9. I have realised that there is common leftover from 8th ed in most of the 9th ed books:

at the end of the books (i.e. orcs&goblins 9th), in the glosary there are still references about the "Unique troop type key" instead of shrine

    1. Thanks for making me aware of it, I will look into it.

  10. I noticed the Greatswords skip Medium Armor and only have Heavy Armor and Full Plate Armor as options, and they cost only 1 and 2 points respectively. Could it be a leftover of the 8th Edition?

  11. I would have two questions to ask: I noticed the 8E Army Books for the Orcs and Goblins didn't necessarily went through all the updates for balance the 9E did, is it normal?

Also, as we get close to the point where Ravening Hordes updates get close for the 8E books, I have another question: will these updates take into considerations the Special Characters of these armies? It wold feel a bit unfair if rules for Special Characters were only disponible for now with 9E (sorry if these questions were already asked, but I didn't find them).

    1. Yeah, the 8th Ed O&G book is slightly behind on the updates compared to the 9th ed book, this is due to me wanting to focus as much as possible on getting out all the main books out. After this, I will go on a major "update spree" and fix updates for all books and Ravening Hordes lists as well.

Yes, the Ravening Hordes lists will also get access to special characters in the future.

  12. Any particular reason why estailia blackwatch are much better than reiksguard foot knights for the same points?

    1. Reiksguard are 13 pts, black watchmen are 14 pts. Almost the same stats, shield instead of halberds, black watchmen have immunity fear (1 pt) but take up a rare choice to boot.

    2. sorry I looked at the 8th book when they were the same point cost. for one point they gain an extra point of initiative, tactical supremacy, immunity fear and terror, hatred undead. quite a lot considering they are the elite of the empire.

  13. The description of Greatswords says that they often wear a full-plate armor but they can´t have it now. Also I think they are quite weak to be the infantry elite of the Empire, especially compared with other human elite unit of Nippon or Arabia.

  14. So how come greatswords lost their full plate - I don't mind paying for it, but it seems a little unfair to lose it completely. The more options the better no?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The thing is, none of the greatsword models have ever had full plate. In 4th ed they had light armour, in 6th ed partial plate (heavy armour really) and in 8th the models had medium armour at best. This also sets them apart from the Reiksguard.

    1. They do have plate armour, just not FULL plate armour (which the background does not mention anything of). They wear partial plate armour, unlike the Reiksguard who wear full plate.

They cost 3 points less than Araby's Palace guard, while losing out on 1 pt of armour and +1 S, which is fair. The Emperor's guard have almost the same stats and slightly better armour, halberds instead of great weapons, and cost 1 point more. They are all pretty much on par with each other.

  16. Shouldn’t Marius leitdorf have full plate armour like the other elector counts?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not really, his model is much more lightly armoured compared to the other Elector Counts. It's intentional that he only has heavy armour.

      Delete
    2. seems strange wouldn't an elector count use the best protection available to himself. was always classed as full plate before wasn't he?

      Delete
    3. Well, Marius has always been a little crazy ;)

Yes, it was streamlined in the rules so that all elector counts had full plate armour. I'm more for WYSIWYG though.

    4. Not that I mind either way but could he have an option to upgrade for those that really want it?

  17. Any progress on the empire Knights book?

    1. Nothing much yet, I've been working a bit on both Lizardmen and WoC lately, sorting up their bestiary. The Knight update will go quick as soon as a start it. I would expect it to be out later this month though :)

  18. Oh hey, the Dwarfs jumped up several notches. Soon they will overtake those pompous High Elves, and the Grudge will be satisfied.

    1. Haha, yeah I decided to push the DE release back a bit until the new Daughters of Khaine Battletome is out, looks like there are a few units there that would work in their army book. As such, Dwarfs might have their book released before that.

Still plan to finish the HE book first through ;)

    2. The Book of Grudges will remember this...

Side note, was it ever noted if worship of Khaine is strictly an elf thing, or can he be worshipped by other races like humans?

      Delete
    3. I think it's pretty much only Elves, humans are likely to worship Khorne instead. Never found a source that said otherwise.

  19. It's probably a nitpick, but on page 230 in the army list, the spearmen are referred to as halberdiers in the upgrade options.

    1. No nitpick is too small (as long as it's something objectively wrong at least)! I will fix it.
