Warhammer 9th Ed 1.62 out now!

This update changes the following:

  • Clarified that fight in extra ranks stacks.
  • Lifted restriction for duplicate special units by 1 per 1000 pts.
  • For every Core unit with the Expendable special rule in your army, you are required to include at least one other Core Unit without the Expendable rule. This is added to the Choosing Your Army chapter rather than the Special Rules section. They otherwise counts towards minimum Core now.
  • Fixed bug with champions still mentioned as being allowed to issue challenges.
  • Fixed bug with war machines being mentioned fleeing from Panic.
  • Clarified that all shrines can join Infantry units.

  1. Can we expect Sacred Kroxigors in Lizardmen army book?

  3. Regarding Skirmishers, Fast Cavalry and Lone Characters:
-Skirmishers get a inflict a -1 To Hit penalty against ranged attacks made towards them, which is explained as due to their loose formation. I kinda think that should be removed since Lone Characters on foot don't get such a benefit. Though they get Look Out Sir! they have no such benefit when there's nothing around them or the roll is failed.
-Both Skirmishers and Fast Cavalry can fire on the march. I don't think that should be there since it breaks a fundamental rule that everything else has to follow and also because it doesn't make much sense to me since they're so focused on moving.
-In the case of Ambushers, Scouts and Vanguard, I think that those rules should be exceptions to how characters cause units to lose special rules they have. I think the unit should keep the rule as long as the character joining them is the same unit type. In previous editions, it was implied that characters with the unit had the training for it. Either that, or make it that all characters can purchase the rules as long as their mount isn't too large.

    1. I notice you make suggestions for how YOU want 9th ED to be like as opposed to asking the community on discord then posting feedback

    2. I brought this up on the Discord just to see what other players thought about it, but none of those changes were considered as necessary. Not saying that do not make sense, but it would not really make the game better I think.

  4. I disagree. Skirmishers have always had the rule, and historically a loose formation was much harder to hit when shooting at them (which is one of reasons they were used). Surely a better option would be to argue that a lone character on foot (this is important) should also receive a -1 To Hit, rather than taking away a key rule to a very unique style of unit across multiple army books. It is also rarer to see a lone character than it is to see skirmishers. Put your characters in units where they belong and can benefit from protection.

Fire on the march also represents what set skirmishers apart from line infantry. They were fast harassment units. Why would you want to take that away from them?

I think the reason characters were not given those rules were for balance reasons. Imagine a Beastmen army that ambushes with a Doombull in your back lines? it would be too strong. Characters should be leading from the front, let the unit champions lead the raiding parties.

  5. Hey there. I know this is a wierd question to ask, since lizardmen are still way off but... Any plans for southlands?

    1. You can already make a Southlands list from the current Lizardmen book, there's spears as an option for the skinks :)
