So after toiling away for nearly the entire day (almost 12 hours straight, back says ouch!), I've finally finished the Bretonnia book, my longest to date! Clocking in at nothing less than 197 pages, this tome contains pretty much everything there is to know on Bretonnians, with tons of fluff compiled from both 5th and 6th ed army books as well as Knights of the Grail from WFRP.
The list contains nothing less than 7 new units and the return of 12 classic special characters, a Lore of the Lady, and revised virtues, magic items and army list, fully updated to 8th edition!

Probably not in the nearest future I'm afraid. Seeing as there is no source material for Ind, I have to write the whole thing myself, which will take quite some time.
DeleteAtm, I am planning on finishing the Chaos Dwarf book, then Mercenaries of Tilea, then Cult of Ulric/Slaanesh, then update all other books again, and then I will try to finish Ind.

Thanks, I will have another patch coming out for it soon as well. Regarding Mercenaries of Tilea, it's just an expansion, not a whole army book. It will focus primarily on mercenary troops from that region, as opposed to being an army book for Tilea per say. Would I call it Tilea, I would want to include the whole thing, which would also be the Dogs of War book. But that would simply be unmanageable and turn out to be longer than even the Bretonnia book!

ReplyDeleteHippogriff knights do sound better I guess than those silly Empire ones, but I dont like that they're a lowly T3. A bit of a annoyance to pegasus knights I suppose too

Well, I'm just keeping with the 8th ed trend here, which is to give each army a large monster/chariot-altar of some sort.
DeleteHippogriff Knights are T3 because their rider is, they still use the number of wounds given by the mount. Pegasus Knights are also T3 now.
Questing Knights have reportedly been very useful with their new rules, further playtesting will tell if they need any more buffs.
Hi there, I love what you have done with all these army lists and I think they really enrich the Warhammer world as well as giving players more options. Bretonia is much more interesting and flavourful with your changes so it gets a thumbs up from me. I'm just posting to suggest giving men at arms a few more choices than the pole arm - its great that they can be used as spears as well as halberds but I'd like to see more weapons options for them based on the visual aesthetic of the army. Maybe give them the option of spears, halberds, or hand weapons. The old Bretonian men at arms had these options and it's strange that they restricted their weapons so severely. I'd also like to have crossbowmen back in the list too - they used to be available troops but again they were removed for some reason.
ReplyDeleteHi, glad you like the list! Regarding the M@A weapon options, why would anyone choose spears or halberds over polearms, when the polearm gives you the choice of both? I know the old models had either spears or halberds, but the new ones have pole-arms, which is what I based the list on. It would be rather superfluous to give them options to have both spears, halberds and spears/halberds when it's all in their basic equipment already.
DeleteLikewise, I'd rather see them be used with pole-arms instead of bunkering up with swords and shields, you have foot knights for that purpose.
Crossbows haven't been apart of the Bretonnian list since 3rd ed - crossbows themselves were practically known as "knight killers" so issuing those kind of weapons (along with pikes!) wouldn't be that good an idea in case of peasant uprisings which take place every now and then ;)
I take your point on crossbows - the knights wouldn't want the riff-raff to be too well armed.
ReplyDeleteWith the suggestion for men at arms I'm thinking more about unit variety rather than having loads of guys all armed the same - I know GW only has one one M@A unit at the moment but that should hopefully change in the future and in any case many of the older empire/bretonian soldiers could be used.
With regard to the polearm being better then maybe the lesser options could be 1/2 a point to a point cheaper.
So maybe:
sword and shield = 5pts
spear and shield = 5.5pts
halberd and shield = 5.5pts
polearm and shield = 6pts
Just some thoughts really
You could still use the old models, they just follow the same rules. I don't really want the M@A to be equivalent of Empire State Troopers in that they come with a ton of weapon options, but rather have them with a fixed given role.
DeleteWith your suggestion I fear that a lot of people would simply pick the cheaper HW&S option for increased survivability and cheaper cost, which means they would seldom get used as intended, and the Foot Knights would just be a somewhat better choice that does the same thing really.

And i was sad since the 8th edition book hadn't come out for them. I'll be needing all the help i can get since I'm going up against dark elves, Warriors of the Chaos wastes, and high elves. my current army is Vampire Counts,but they just aren't my style.Heres hoping they will let me use this book!!!
