New Halfling update and 9th ed version out now!

This update changes the following:

  • Short bows replaces bows completely (fits better with their size and fluff).
  • Removed Forest Strider from the army list (were already gone from the bestiary).
  • Lords of the Harvest 7 pts.
  • Moot Ogres does not have LA by default, 27 pts. Ogre Charge works like RH: OK.
  • Additional fluff added to halflings in the empire.

  1. -Elders and Sheriffs should be I8 and I7 respectively. This is because Lords of the Harvest are I6 and the trend is that most armies have their combat heroes and lords be +1 and +2 initiative compared to the highest initiative rank-and-file units respectively.
-The Resistant to Magic rule says: 'Grand Enchanters and Enchanters suffer only channel' A less awkward wording is: 'Grand Enchanters and Enchanters channel Power Dice on a 5+ and Dispel dice on a 3+ in the Magic phase.
-Bee Swarms should have M2D6 and A3D6 on their profile. Every other unit with random movement, attacks or both has their random number of attacks listed on their profile.
-The Master Thief does not need to have Sneaky and Take it and run! explained. Those rules are already explained in the rulebook and army book respectively.
-Since the fluff says a Chuck Wagon is as much or more inspiring than any Battle Standard, its base Hold Your Ground! should be 12" with Cheffs increasing it to 18".
-For Angry Swans, Nasty Temper should just be replaced with Hatred (Angry Swan only) and Devastating Charge (Angry Swan only).
-Does the Wheatshield continue to grant a Regeneration (3+) if the model using it has wounds restored? You should clarify.
-Why can't Elders, Grand Enchanter, Enchanters and Sheriffs ride Battle Rams, Angry Swans or Hounds?

    1. - It actually varies from race to race. For Humans for instance, it's +2 over the basic trooper (so I3 -> I5 for both heroes and lords). I don't think it needs to be raised higher, Elves should be a bit faster.
      - Fixed.
      - That would screw up the formatting, hence why it is as it currently is.

      - Added battle rams, the rest are meant for specialist units only.

    4. I hate to correct you, Mathias, but Initiative is universally +3 for lords over basic troopers.
The Empire General is a bad example because he is not a "true" melee lord, he also has -1WS and -1A compared to what he should have, instead having the powerful Hold the Line! ability and a cheaper price.
The Grandmaster is the true Empire melee lord.

    5. I do believe you are correct in capping their Initiative though, else it gets silly. A Dwarf hero should also have LD10 if the modelled was followed to the letter (and they had at one point) but it was to imbalanced.
Its fine for Halfling infantry to be as fast as their Elf counterpoints, but an Elder being as fast as an Elf Prince is a bit ludicrous.

I btw also have a question for you under the 9th edition label. Since its a question about the BRB I thought it was better to ask it there, but its been there a while so I don't think you have seen it.
I'm a bit of a stickler for that kind of thing, but do you prefer to just be asked questions at your newest entry instead? I understand if its easier to keep a eye on things that way.

    6. Right you are, I remembered that incorrectly! The cap is still not the same for Orcs and Dwarf characters though, which only have +2I for their lords.

Regarding questions, feel free to post your questions where-ever you feel like it, I get notifications of new comments regardless where they are posted.

    1. Check the "halflings in the Empire" section of the main background, there's an additional page there now.

  4. Is there a particular reason the Moot Knight Champion for the Ram Knights gains +1 BS as opposed to +1 A?

  5. I have a question. Since halflings are a part of the Empire, will you to take halfling units such as Vigilante Guards and the like as part of an Empire army?

    1. Yes, the Empire will be able to take Halfling Militia with spears, swords and bows, as they already have in their ravening hordes list.

  6. The background section repeats itself quite a bit, and in other places contradicts itself. Reads like a hasty copy and paste job and would benefit from some editing I think. A few examples:

p10, 4th paragraph "Halflings are a peaceful folk..."
p11 2nd paragraph "Halflings are an overfed and peaceful folk..."

p19. Hambelly Hazeldown sugguests creation of Mootland as a joke and is crowned first Halfling elector.
p28 Emperor grants land as thanks for his Halfling cook.
also p28. Philipol Furfoot pressures the emperor into signing land over.

There's quite a few more. Also "Unquenchable Appetite" ought to be "insatiable". The verb to quench applies to thirst only, not appetite.

    1. Yes, most of the background is a compilation of various sources from Warhammer and WFRP, hence there's some repetition. I'd be happy to edit out the inconsistencies if you list them for me.

I'll change the "Unquenchable" to "insatiable" as well, thanks!
