Warhammer: Amazons proper 8th ed update out now!

3 years since the last update, so it was about time! And again, thanks to Stefan Wolf for helping me flesh out the background for many of the units! This new update features the following:

- 4 new units: Jaguar Hunting Packs, Terradon Riders, Medusas and an Avatar of Rigg.
- 2 new special characters: Lwaxana and Lysippe.
- New/updated Magic Items.
- Timeline for the Amazons.
- Much edited background section.
- Units now have access to a multitude of High Age Artefacts.
- Complete 8th ed revision with full colour artwork and layout.

Let me know how the army fares if you test it, some prices and options might need some changes to be worthwhile in keeping with the army's playstyle.

  1. WOW ! those Jungle Stalkers are amazing ! maybe too much on paper ^^ I mean : my "regular army is skavens and I consider the gutter runners with slings+poison as one of the best (if not THE best) machines/monsters-hunters of the game. Now for only 13 pts (5pts less than runners !!), there are some girls who are just as efficient but with range 24" !! Totally auto-include for me if I ever play amazons one day :)
Well this makes sense due to the background (wood women etc...) but still...
Anyway GG for the work as usual. I'm starting to think that your books are better than most of GW books... (should I cry or be happy about that...?)

ps : pardon my English I'm not native :S

    1. Yeah, they do look a bit too cheap now that you mention it... I will bump them to 14 pts, I think I was a bit too lenient on them, especially considering they are BS4.
Though to be fair, they are not scouts and have worse stats in combat than gutter runners, but their shooting output is quite considerate.

      And thanks!

    2. Indeed, sorry for reading too quickly the book :
      - they have worse combat stats than runners (-1ws,-1ini, -1a !!)
      - they have a ridiculous movement (4 vs 6 for runners !!)

regarding that, 14pts seems very fair to me :)

oh and I think there is a word missing in the lore attribute description ;)

      cheers !

ps : as u see I love my runners like if they were my own children, I can't stand seeing a unit being better than them xD

    3. I've rewritten the lore attribute description a bit, it was worded rather weird.

I guess you are one of the few then, most seem to play Moulder/Skryre nowadays ;)

    1. The Priestess is currently wrongly priced, she should be 85 pts. The Coatl is technically under-priced actually (compared to say, a Sun Dragon), and the Avatar really cost that much mathematically (rechecked several times). So while they seem extremely expensive, all those special rules and ward saves really do push them to that price point.

Albion is on it's way, only need a little more fluff for the bestiary and finish up some special characters. You can probably expect it in a week or so.

  6. Well once again great Job!

People already pointed out the different bugs and things that need reworking.

This book is really breathtaking, the artwork is great, so many different images from, what it seems different artists, but yet they share a style that makes it look cohesive.

Would love to playtest them, but I'm still playtesting araby hahaha

    Best regards

    1. Thanks! One of the biggest issues was really deciding on which artwork to keep, there are quite a lot of great illustrations I unfortunately didn't have enough pages to fill. I had originally planned to make the history section longer, but wanted to get the book out sooner. I might go back at some point and add to that, just so I have an excuse to add more artwork :p

    1. There are quite a few companies making suitable Amazonian models, try Shadowforge and Maidenhead miniatures, as well as Freebooter among others.

    2. Shadowforge and Maidenhead are awesome for the rank & file types. I love the Maidenhead terrorbird riders. I admit that as a female player, it bugs me that they are all topless. :-\ The Wargames Factory amazons are nice and cheap, but don't quite match the style of the WH amazons. Maybe with a little conversion work.

The Freebooter figures are beatiful, and would be fantastic for special characters. Also, Bombshell miniature's "Tepeyollotla" figure would be a nice character of some sort. http://bombshell-miniatures.highwire.com/product/tepe

Also, Dragonblood miniatures had some great aztec style Amazons. They were recently bought out by Antimatter games, who are expanding the figure line with some awesome new models (and putting more clothes on them!). http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524168246/shadowsea-conquest-of-the-underlands

Lastly, the Tekumel Club has released some really nice looking female warriors with a psuedo-aztec style. The Princess model in particular would make a nice champion type. http://thetekumelclub.blogspot.ca/p/the-palace-of-ever-glorious-war.html

    3. Oh! I forgot one. The Quetzlcoatl model from the Hell Dorado line would make a gorgeous (though very expensive) Gorol. Here's a very well-painted example. http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/3603

And if you can find the out-of-production coatl from Ral Partha's Crucible series, its pretty awesome.

    1. Sabretooths (or Sabretusks) are native to the Mountains of Mourn on the other side of the Warhammer World. All that fur isn't exactly beneficial in the jungles of Lustria ;)
