Kickstarter for Cathay models

In a stroke of non-endorsed commercialism, I'd like to bring the attention of Cathay fans to Watchful I Studios' Kickstarter that is currently in the making. They will create many models suitable for a Cathay army, including Fu Dogs and Terracotta Warriors, which are very hard to come by at the moment from other manufactures.
I'm a pledger myself to their project which is good on the way to be successfully funded, and you can even get a glimpse of my smiling face in the comments (if your interested in that sort of thing). Be sure to "like" their Facebook page too in order to unlock more free miniatures if you decide to pledge.

  1. Why do the Tengu from the Nippon dex have 2 attacks base and a halberd base? I always figured that the reason that harpies have 2 attacks base is because they use both their claws to attack.

  3. Perhaps it would be a good idea to make it possible to upgrade Foot Knights, Pegasus Knights and Hippogryph Knights with "The Questing Vow" (replacing a Pegasus Knights or Hippogryph Knights lance with a Great Weapon of course), with Hippogryph knights being upgradable to "The Grail Vow" as well (which would change their statline to a Grail Knights statline). I would also make Grail Knights start off on foot and you pay points to grant them a horse or a Pegasus.

    1. I think that would take away from their uniqueness, grail knights are supposed to be really rare, which they would not be if you could take them as a special choice, or take questing knights as both foot knights, questing knights and pegasus knights. Seems a bit unlikely that the entire army would consist of nothing but questing knights ;)

    2. I didn't say that Grail Knights should be moved to special. I said that they should start off on foot and you can mount them on a horse or pegasus. I also don't see anything in the fluff (correct me if I'm wrong) that says that a Questing knight has to be on a horse and can't instead opt to go on foot or ride a more exotic mount. Even if the options I'm suggesting are added, it still wouldn't be possible to make an army entirely out of Questing knights because there is still a minimum amount of points that have to go into core, a maximum amount of points that can go into special.

    3. I meant that if you could have questing knights as options both on foot and pegasus, the would the number of possible questing knights would potentially be much higher than that of common knights. Same with Grail Knights, by allowing them on foot, you decrease their points cost dramatically, allowing the once oh-so-rare Grail Knights to be taken in the dozens in a normal list. I want the majority of Knights be have the Knight's Vow, Questing and Grail Knights should be more unique and rarer in the field.

    4. To be fair, I wouldn't expect anyone to not mount Grail Knights on a horse and people would only use them on foot if there is a map that's heavily against cavalry or the players are using a special scenario that prevents the use of cavalry. If you don't like the idea of Questing and Grail knights on foot then I won't be able to change anything but the low numbers of Pegasus Knights and Hippogryph knights should mean that you can make it that those units can be upgraded to Questing and Grail knights without causing the possibility of them being fielded in large numbers. If you don't like Grail Knights on foot than at least allow their Horse to be upgraded to a Pegasus.

    5. I still don't think that's necessarily fitting, because then you have both Pegasi in both rare and special, and you already have flying MC in the form of Hippogryph knights in the rare section. Seeing as Grail Knights usually live as hermits protecting Grail Shrines, it does not seem like each having a possible Pegasus around the corner would make much sense.
If you want this option you could ofc agree to use it with your opponent, but it's not something I'd like to add to the book.

  4. There's been at least one occasion when an old rule we assumed to still exist turned out not to but it was too good to drop so we all came to a gentlemen's agreement to let it stand. And I am amazed by the production values on these things, they more than match the official publications.
