Empire Knightly Orders 9th ed 1.02 out now!

Updated 29/1:
  • Fixed Preceptors only having 1A.
  • Added version number.
  • Fixed bug which allowed Reiksgaurd to be upgraded to Inner Circle.

Not a huge update, but it contains the following changes:

  • New layout to match the Empire Army Book.
  • Additional background for Knights of Sigmar's Blood and Knights of the Fiery Heart.
  • Obsidian armour functions like normal full plate.
  • White wolf hammers follow the rules of halberds with armour piercing.
  • Knights Encarmine can negate rank bonuses.
  • Knights of the Sacred Scythe have hand weapons, Hatred (Vampire Counts).
  • Added if the unit takes up a Core, Special or Rare slot (White Wolves and Panther are Core as they are the biggest orders)
  • Cheaper Grand Masters, in accordance with the Empire army book.

I'm not finished with the Empire 8th Ed update for Ravening Hordes yet, but it should out sometime next week, shortly followed by the Steam Tanks expansion. High Elves will most likely be out later in February.

  1. Browsed through it Mathias. At first glance I like what I see. Good job :-)

  2. Have you given balancing out the magic rules more of a thought before getting to the magic-heavy army books btw?

    1. Yes, I have. I will make an update to the main rules before finishing the High Elf book :)

  3. Looks great, from a quick glance some of the preceptors have 1 attack.

Also I see knights of the vengeful sun have no special rules

    1. Fixed the Preceptor bug.

Yeah, there was nothing really special about their fighting style in their background unfortunately. They are mainly included for fluff purposes.

    2. there is always scope to add rules. we should be guided by the fluff, not constrained by it. Make something up

  4. A minor bug, Reiksguard knights have access to the Inner Circle upgrade despite their entire order consisting of the equivalent of Inner Circle Knights.

  5. Other two minus bugs:
*In troop type of Knights Panther it is not described "(Core Unit)".
*In equipment of Knights of the Sacred Scythe it is repeated hand weapons.

  6. Based on the bestiary description for demigryph knights in the main empire book, do you think the Knights Griffon should have the option to upgrade their inner circle knights to Demigryphs?

  7. My friend had an idea/request of a small thing about Fast Cavalry. Could you make a small box side of the page in army books, somewhere where there's Fast Cavalry troop option, that if you upgrade the armour too high, the unit loses the special rule? Kind of a small short reminder would be nice to have.

    1. Well, that's already part of the 9th ed Fast Cavalry rules though. In this case it would be better to print out a quick reference sheet with 9th ed changes to 8th ed.

  8. Noticing a few entries have rules to ignore fear and terror checks. Do these need changing as in 9th edition you suffer leadership modifiers for fear and terror than a specific test? Under the belief that the test for being charged by a terror causing unit is worded as a panic check

    1. Immunity (Fear, Terror) means they ignore Ld modifier as well as the Terror test (which, while resolved like a Panic test is caused under terror, and as such is ignored if you are immune to terror.
