New Estalia update and 9th Ed version out now!

This update changes the following:

  • Estalian Steel removed (seeing as neither Dwarfs nor Elves have it, it does not really fit that human smiths would be able to make better weapons).
  • Pikes work the same as 9th ed (for 8th ed).
  • Pikemen may now have halberds.
  • Removed griffon upgrades.
  • Cheaper Aventuros.
  • Cheaper Rodeleros.
  • Sisters of Fury can no longer take javelins.
  • Sisters of Fury, Royal Guard and Black Watchmen have US 10+.
  • Juan Federico is now mounted by default.
  • Some additional fluff for pikemen, rodeleros and genitors.

  1. -Isabellas Living Saint special rule says she gives units Immune (Psychology) instead of Immunity (Psychology).
-Tizona & Colada wielded by Santiago says that he may fight with both even if mounted.
-I don't quite understand why Don Lomente has such low stats. Marius Leitdorf is just as nutty but still has good combat stats.
-The Pistols of the Duel should have a 15" range. Ranges being multiples of 3".
-The Scintillating Shield says that models wielding it can always make parry saves with it even if wielding a magic weapon. Replace that last part with 'even if mounted'.
-The Cape of Velacruz has an addendum that it also protects against Thunderstomps which no longer exist.
-Why can't Commanders and Grand Commanders carry Crossbows and Handguns?
-Why did you take Javelins from the Sisters of Fury and Priestesses of Myrmidia? It meshes so well, using big spears and little spears to fight. The Priestess should also be BS4.
-Maybe Marines should be in core. They are not particularly skilled or well-equipped and quite a few army books can get core ambushers.
-Maybe make Inner Circle Knights a Rare unit in a similar manner to Inner Circle Knights of The Empire being special.

      - They are meant to be a close combat unit, javelins and full plate don't really mix. Fixed the BS.
      - I don't want Estalian armies to be able of consisting of only Marines, they are meant to be a specialised support unit (even if they are not very skilled).
      - Fixed.

    2. But without Javelins the Sisters of Fury cannot make use of their Ballistic Skill 4. Same with Priestesses of Myrmidia.

    4. Death and shadow magic are probably banned in Estalia due to a mistaken belief that dark is evil but why would the Lore of Beasts be banned?

    5. They don't have to pay for their BS4 unless they have a missile weapon, so this does not have any effect.

Lore of Beasts is considered too "savage" for the Estalians, it does not really go with their renaissance theme.

  2. Only a little detail, I dont´t know if this is in purpose but in spanish plural of conquistador is "conquistadores", no conquistadors.

    1. Conquistadors is the English version of the word, which is intentional.

    3. Ah ok, I only knew the word conquerors, I thonk that it was a spanish word as rodeleros or caballeros. Conquistadors sounds like strange spanglish.

  3. Why no medium armour on the pikeblocks?
I just got a tone of armoured pikemen from Warlord games.
Just cant se why not al "civilised" nations culdent uppgradera to medium armour.
Sure it culd be a 0-1 option in some cases.
As I se the new armour a light armour is like a light hauberk and maybe a helmet
Medium armour is maybe some chain mail and hauberk some form of leg and or arm protection.
Heavy armour is the medieval knight and fullplate is high medieval/pre blackpowder age knight.
And lots of soldiers (Soldiers not conscripted rabble) used the medium armour.

    1. This is because it would make the armour saves uneven when in a Tercio with Rodeleros (who have light armour). Against missile attacks, they should have the same save which they won't if you can give pikemen medium armour.

  4. Well give them medium armour aswell ;)

    1. That would fit with some models sure, but not all. It would work if you have a paragraph about both the aventuros and rodeleros in the unit being forced to upgrade to medium armour, but it's unnecessarily fiddly.

That being said, most Spanish troops rarerly wore more than a breastplate and a helmet (light armour) while some might also have been wearing tassets and pauldrons (barerly medium armour). Tilean pikemen (like Leopard Company) typically wear more armour.

  5. Yes that will be a bit more to be explaining.
I will just use those upgrades myself. Cus I won't use rodeleros in my formations I won't have to explain al those weird rules exceptions.
I'm more of a pike & shotte tactics with rodeleros as a flanking force

  6. We've had many Battles with Estalian Armies in the last Six Months. We've seen that Estalian Adventuros get +1 on WS and +1 I for just 1 point more worth (costing only 7 points each). Don't you think could be more correct +2 points for a total of 8 points?

  7. Can I ask what is the point of the War Alter of Myrmidia for 100pts you get nothing but a BSB. Please explain
