Regarding the Fimir

Unfortunately I might have to put the Fimir book on ice for the time being, as I have been unable to secure permission for the art from Warpstone 25. I haven't gotten a "no" either, but since I don't want another situation like the one with the previous version, I'd rather not use any of their material without a clear go-ahead.

Instead, I think I will incorporate the Fimir as an allied contingent in the upcoming book. This allows me make a more condensed Fimir list with only the most fitting units as opposed to stretching the list thin (considering Albion and Wood Elves already are based on Celtic mythology). There will still be background and art, only a smaller amount of it. It's still possible I'll make a new full version at some point in the future though if I'll have enough ideas and material, but for now, I'd rather have a playable version that is short and sweet rather than long and bloated.

On the plus-side, this means that I can push up the release date for the Allied Contingents book, so you might be able to enjoy those army lists much sooner than previously planned.

  1. I have just finished writing the army file for the Fimir and need some clarifications;

    1. Can the Tail attack be used when mounted?
    2. Does the spell Swirling Mists last until the caster's next magic phase?
    3. Does the spell Daemon Summoning allow a unit to grow beyond its starting strength?
    4. Is there no lore attribute for Fimir Magic?
    5. Talisman 'Talon of Mother Gorne', is the ward save calculated at the start of each phase?

    1. I would wait until I get the new version out before working further on it, as the current version is rather outdated and not all that well-balanced. It's going to look a lot different, so it's rather pointless to code for it at the moment.

  2. Too late, already done! :-)) When a reworking comes out I'll recode, no worries.

  3. Hi Mathias. I'm not sure if you've come across the work of Fimm McCool before but it seems to me he may have something to offer your Fimir project. Take a look through his blog and see what you think.

    1. I have actually, about a year ago. I do think there are quite a few ideas there and I probably will incorporate a bit of his background into the new list, though it's still rather far away from feeling like a complete book. Then again, Ogre Kingdoms also have a rather limited core and special section, but each of their unit fits really well compared to the current Fimir list, which just has a few too many units added for the sake of having more units.

    2. Good luck finding a solution, the Fimir are a fantastic Old School faction and I hope to see them fully represented some day. It seems as though Fimm is happy to share images and artwork with you, if that's any use.

    3. Yeah, that's what I asked him a year ago ;)
      The issue with the Fimir list at the moment is that there are just so few units that are actually made up of Fimir, and GW didn't exactly leave much too build on. Nor can I just throw in a bunch of units since the Fimir do not really use missiles weapons, cavalry or war machines, leaving only creatures from Celtic myth, many of which has already been used in Albion/Wood Elves.

  4. Loved your ruleset, really inspired my army I have built/building. Do you think you will revisit this project with fimm McCool help? Would like to know also if you remove any models due to the warpstone complaints.

    1. At some point yes. There will be quite a few changes to the list, but I cannot say for sure which ones yet.
