Just some info about the Update Order

Due to Warhammer: Total War 2 being out later this year which will contain both High Elves, Dark Elves and Lizardmen (and as such, probably some new background that can be added to their books), I will postpone the planned updates for these books (as well as Wood Elves, since I want all Elf books to be released shortly after another) and focus more on the main armies of the Old World for the time being. This means that after the release of Orcs & Goblins (most of the work is done, still has some background stuff to edit), I will focus on the Empire, and then either Dwarfs or Vampire Counts. Chaos will still have to wait as I'm waiting to see what GW has in store for Nurgle and Slaanesh, so I know how much material I have to make an expansion out of.

  1. Have you considered making rules for using multiple magical lores? There are two ways this was constructed in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay:
-Characters can learn a single dark lore and single arcane lore. The arcane lores are the rulebook lores while dark lores were Chaos magic, necromancy, skaven magic, wild magic, dark magic and chaos dwarf magic. That means that, for example, a Chaos Sorcerer could choose spells from two lores, a chaos lore of his patron god and either fire, death, shadows or metal.
-The witchcraft talent allows a character to learn spells with a casting value less than 15 from any arcane lore. In the wargame, this would mean that every wizard has a main lore they have moderate to full access to and may take spells from secondary lores that they have low to moderate access to. Say that they can take half the 'level' of spells as that of their main lore rounded down, so a Level 3 wizard can choose up to spell 5# from their main lore and up to spell 2# of any other lore. The ability to use this is limited to certain factions. Empire wizards can't do it, elven ones can, generally, the ability to take from multiple arcane lores should be limited to the forces of destruction and unaligned forces with the exception of elves and lizardmen.
-Witch Lores are a third category. In the roleplaying game, witch lores are the lore of Hedgecraft, Hags and Ice. Only a single witch lore can be learned and never alongside an arcane or dark lore. Which army book specific lores are witchlores is circumstances dependent, orc, goblin, hobgoblin and ogre specific lores could be considered witch lores while others such as high magic would be arcane lores.
-If a wizard only chooses spells from a single lore, they automatically gain the signature spell of that lore. This is to avoid army books where wizards can only ever use a single lore from getting outmatched.

    1. The idea is interesting, but maybe a bit too much to take in right now. I will look into it more for possible future updates though.

    2. Oh, by the way, the Witchcraft talent can also be used alongside Witch Lores (Hedge Masters even have Witche as a career exit) but unless you know both an Arcane Language and an Arcane Lore, the spells are more risky (you must roll an extra dice for the purposes of Tzeentch's Curse). For wizards that already have a main arcane lore, this isn't a problem but making certain lores be Witch Lores complicates things.

  2. The Cathay, Norse and Dogs of War army books need updates due to your changes to shields:
-The Impregnable Tortoise should cause shields to provide a bonus to all sides instead of just the front. The armor save bonus could be dropped to 1+ instead since the change would cause the unit to be relatively safe from ranged attacks from all directions.
-The Shieldwall tactic used by Huscarls should grant an armor save bonus to all sides except the back, remove the +1 armor save bonus and drop the armor save bonus from not moving to +1.
-Pavise's used by the Dogs of War need to have +3/4+ when it comes to ranged attacks.

  3. I was hoping to see a Border Princes Army Book by now. But I guess we can't :(

I know Total War has a Border Prince Campaign. I thought you had plans to release a book about this Mathias.

    1. The Border Princes in Total War are just the Empire faction, and in the backgrund it's really just a mix of Empire, Bretonnia and Tilea.

I'm still planning on making a basic army list for the Border Princes down the line, but I'm focusing on getting out the main books first.

  4. If you need some help with book writing/proof-reading/etc, please don't hesitate to contact me! I would especially like o be involved with the Dwarves, as the faction has a lot of sentimental value to me.

    1. Yes, but they will be added as expansions rather than being part of the basic army book. These expansions will probably be released after all the other books are finished.

  6. When is expected the next release?

    1. Hard to say, right now I'm doing some work on the Dwarf book to sort out their material, but I also found a lot of background from Warhammer Online that I had missed in my original sweep. Hopefully I should have O&G out sometime this month though.

  7. hello mathias, have you considered to give O&G a little boost in magic?
their lore and magic in general is restricted to only two lores. every other army has access to more lores.
so my thought was to give ork-shamans acces to lore of beasts and gobbos to shadow.
or to make the greenskin lores more versatile with two versions of each spell.
for example maybe 2 basic spells each, for big and for little waaagh.
a sneaky hex and a magic missile spell for the little waaagh and a brutish augment and a damage spell for big waaagh.

thanks for your unbelievable good work

    1. I don't think other lores would fit with O&G as their background states their magic comes from "da great green". As such, it does not make sense for them to use the normal lores.

Two versions of each spell would not really work, the only time I've tried that was with the Lore of Ying and Yan, and that's because that's was the theme of the lore (which is really meant to be two lores in one).

Skaven can also only use two lores.

    2. yeah i know, was only a suggestion because i still got the feeling there is "something" missing in the O&G magic.
please consider to give them at least two signature spells?! if i compare them to skaven, the skaven lores are much more powerful...

  8. Not to sound unappreciative or anything, but how close are you to finishing the Orcs and Goblins book? I've been checking the site every day since you released Tomb Kings for the new one, and it's kind of been driving me nuts.

    Sincerely,

    A huge fan

    1. I would expect it to take another 2 weeks or so, still finding new material to add (along with tinkering a bit on Dwarfs and VC), and I don't have much time off from work for the next month. I would suggest you either choose to "Follow" through the blogger system, alternatively you can follow me on my google-account, then you will get all updates automatically.
