New large Nippon update out now!

Expecting Sartosa were you? Do not fret, it's till being scheduled for the end of this week. In the meantime, I've finished a rather hefty update for Nippon, containing the following:

  • Improved layout with new page backgrounds and graphics.
  • Some minor rules-changes and tweaks, katanas gaining a slight buff.
  • Edits in the background section for better consistency.
  • Plenty of new artwork throughout.
  • Timeline increased to 2 pages. Try to spot all the movie references if you can!
  • New rare unit: Ryujin - water dragons. Now you can stop nagging me for them ;)
  • File size down to 10,7MB.

  1. i like the ryujin its intresting but one mistake under the info bit says monster and in the list says monstrous beast

    i personaly liked the katana when it was +1 to wound that way u have the whole men vs monster thing more interesting but parry and reroll 1s is good too they still feel like they should elite and good quality { i use a unit of 48 with the daimyo and a yamabushi sashimonos and f cmd}

    nice new layout

    general good work

    1. It hasn't been +1 To Wound for quite a while though. The problem with +1 To Wound is they they would simply be way too good vs high toughness models with no armour save, which makes them unbalanced in certain situations. Now they are more balanced overall.

Will fix the Ryujin bit, thanks.

  2. Yeah i agree but samurai should be good vs monsters but glad you changed them from just being armour piercing that was kinda crap another thing prolly better drippiing poison was before so there was no guaranteed wound seems way to cheap to just get rid of a wound which would no doubt be the bsb but great layout nicer than before i will get a dragon lol and btw used a Nippon kislev alliance vs counts and dark elf and won though the kislev part was all dead gotta love mempo of honour lmao general ran woops that's what happens when u roll 12 twice lmao

    1. Well if you want to kill monsters, Sumo Warriors or Samurai with great weapons should be rather efficient ;)
I just don't want their basic units to be able to cut through anything that easily with their default weapons.
I will have a look at dripping poison as well, it could do with some adjusting I suppose.

  4. Ok so after the first game against vampire counts we have worked out the following:-

Samurai with katanas love to fight zombies and skeletons.
The great weapons for 1 point is quite cheap as other books have them for 2 points.
Ninjas are awesome as 10 off them murdered 6 of the large vampire monster infantry.
Next game is going to be against dwarves will keep u posted

    1. That I have no doubts about!
GW's are somewhat cheaper for Samurai because they already pay 1pt for their katanas, which bonus it loses if swapped for a great weapon.
I take it the Ninjas were upgraded with poisoned attacks?
Overall, how did you find the power balance, and who won the game?

Dwarfs could be rather challenging though, Katanas are not going to do all that much against their armour!

    2. Samurai won it in the end, yes the ninja had poisoned weapons, I dont see how the samurai pay 1pt for the katanas as they are 10pts each and come with katanas as standard.
We thought that playing the samurai vs a army they would struggle against would see if they can hold their own against tougher enemies.
      Will keep u updated.

    3. The cost of the Katana is included in their base cost, they would be 1pt cheaper if it was just a hand weapon ;)

  5. So when ninjas use smoke bombs and disengage, do they make a flee move? Also quick shot isn't in the ninjas bestiary. Great boom though

    1. Yes, it's a normal flee move. I've added quick shot to the army list.

  6. Also red ronins star line in the book does not match what it is in the bestiary.

    1. Fixed. I intend to roll out a mass update for most books soon, which will fix a large number of spelling issues and rules clarifications.
